Advantages and disadvantages of the scalping strategy

Let's start with the advantages:

• Smaller risk, as you are only in the market for a short time and therefore less unfortunate events can negatively influence your trades.
• Smaller movements are quickly achieved. For larger price movements, there must be a large imbalance between supply and demand.
• Even in comparatively quiet markets, a scalper can make profits.

You see, there are many advantages that sound tempting. Nevertheless, it is important to look at the disadvantages as well. These would be:

• A larger deposit is usually necessary.
• Bankers and institutional traders have an advantage over the retail scalper because they have more information about the market.
• It can be difficult to maintain your risk/reward ratio under pressure. For example, with a ratio of 2:1 this would mean that your profit is 10 pips and your stop is 5 pips. In many cases this can lead to you being stopped out.
• They will have to invest a lot of time and are exposed to high stress.
